In the movie, Bruckner performed the role of a young high-school student who is having an affair and David Strathairn. Roger Ebert wrote in his film review that Bruckner manages this challenging script completely. Bruckner received the Independent Spirit Award as "Best female role" for her performance. She was raised by three siblings and a brother. Her first language was Hungarian as she often practised the language to stay fluent. Bruckner was a Hollywood Californian, being born of Hungarian parents and Russian mothers who had separated. The paternal grandparents of Bruckner were German. In Hungary Her parents were first met and then immigrated to America in 1984, via an asylum settlement in Italy. She has a sister and a brother.
